3 SIMI SCHOOL POSTS FILLED; DISTRICT OKS ADMINISTRATORS.

Three new administrators were hired to fill vacancies in assistant principal offices at local schools, Simi Valley Unified School District A unified school district is a school district which includes both primary school (kindergarten through middle school or junior high) and high school (grades 9-12). The school board approved the appointments of Melvin Vines as assistant principal at Apollo Continuation High School A continuation high school is an alternative to a comprehensive high school primarily for students who are considered at-risk of not graduating at the normal pace. The requirements to graduate are the same but the scheduling is more flexible to allow students to earn their credits , Dawn DeVries for Valley View Middle School, and Robert Garcia at Simi Valley High School Simi Valley High School is a secondary school located in Simi Valley, California which was established in 1920 as the first high school in the valley. It nestles in the Santa Susana Mountains and is adjacent to the San Fernando Valley, part of the city and county of Ventura. .

``Our staff indicated that they were very pleased with the pool of candidates in all three cases,'' school board president Janice DiFatta said. ``It's nice to be able to move forward and bring in, especially at the administrative level, people of this caliber. And to finally have it done.''

DeVries has been in her new job on an interim basis as an administrative intern. She is working on a masters in educational administration from Cal Lutheran University.

Garcia comes to the district from his post as dean of students at Monroe High School in the Los Angeles Unified School District The Los Angeles Unified School District (the "LAUSD") is the largest (in terms of number of students) public school system in California and the second-largest in the United States. Only the New York City Department of Education has a larger student population. .

Vines has been serving as dean of students at Wilson Middle School in the Pasadena Unified School District The Pasadena Unified School District is a unified school district that is responsible for the schools of Pasadena, California. As of 2005, it has 5 high schools, 3 middle schools, and 24 elementary schools. .
