Three men were killed within hours in separate shootings in the North Hollywood-Toluca Lake area, police reported Saturday.

Authorities believe Offem may have been killed by another Nigerian man over a business dispute, police said. Offem, who had worked as a security guard for several Valley grocery stores, had been unemployed for the past several weeks, according to Coffey.

Barely 12 minutes later in a popular area of Toluca Lake, another 37-year-old, Peter Maloney, of North Hollywood was shot and killed in the 10400 block of Riverside Drive A number of cities around the world have a Riverside Drive.

Witnesses and police said Maloney, described as athletic and an avid walker, was approached by a man on a yellow 10-speed, who got off the bike and pursued the victim on foot.

Coffey said police were investigating the possibility that the shooting took place during a street robbery.

Area residents said the neighborhood was reeling from news of the crime that occurred on a leafy stretch of Riverside Drive.

``This is quiet little Toluca Lake,'' said Barbara Schamber, a 53-year-old school principal who called 911 after hearing a single gunshot Friday night. ``It's a terrible feeling when a man who goes out shopping ends up getting killed bringing home his groceries. It just kind of shocks you.''

The 37-year-old victim, who lived alone nearby, has not been identified pending the notification of his relatives, Coffey said.
