3 Julien Studley employees among trade center missing.

Among those missing since the attack on the World Trade Center are three employees of real estate firm Julien J. Studley, Inc.

Studley had a downtown office on the 86th floor of One World Trade Center with 12 people - eight brokers and four support staff. Among those missing since the attack are James Gartenberg, 36, an associate director with Julien J. Studley Inc., and Patricia Puma, an administrative assistant.

Another employee, Jan Maciejewski, worked part-time as an information technology consultant in the company's midtown office but worked as a waiter at Windows on the World. He has also been missing since the attack.

Studley vice chairman George Martin, who worked with Gartenberg and Puma, was not in the building during the attack.

"They were both young and they had young children," said Studley vice chairman George Martin, who worked with Gartenberg and Puma.

Gartenberg is survived by his wife, who is pregnant, and a two-year-old daughter. Puma is survived by her husband Kevin and children ages 2, 6, and 10.

On the morning of Sept. 11, three people were in the Studley office but one, senior managing director Robert Goodman, left to go to a meeting shortly before the first plane hit the World Trade Center. Martin said he spoke with Puma, who was his secretary, after the first plane struck. Debris was blocking the exit doors and they couldn't get out.

Martin said the other people who worked in the office, some of whom were attending a golf outing that day, have been devastated by the tragedy.

"We worked in a small office. We were part of each other's lives, we knew each other's families," Martin said.

In response to the tragedy, the company has set up a memorial fund to assist the employees' families. Contributions may be sent to: Studley Memorial Fund, do Julien J. Studley, Inc., 300 Park Ave., 3rd floor, New York, NY, 10022.

Gartenberg grew up on Manhattan's East Side and earned a bachelor's degree in economics from the University of Michigan in Am Arbor. He was a founding member of the New York Young Professionals Chapter of the American Parkinson Disease Association and sat on its national board of directors. He also served as president and a member of the board of directors for the University of Michigan Alumni Club of New York.

Gartenberg joined Studley in 1996 after spending six years with Newmark & Company Real Estate Inc. Prior to that he worked for two years with Joseph Hilton & Associates and one year at Huberth & Peters.

While at Studley, worked on deals for companies including Smart Money, Goldman Sachs and the YMCA Retirement Fund. He also penned the downtown portion of the "Studley Report & Spacedata," a quarterly market research report.

Puma started working for the company in 1994 as an administrative assistant and shared administrative duties with another employee. Maciejewski moved to the United States from Poland three years ago and received his Microsoft Engineer certificate in early 2001.
