3 COUNCIL MEMBERS BEING ELECTED TODAY.
SANTA CLARITA - Voters will go to the polls today to select three council members.
Mayor Frank Ferry and Councilwoman Laurene Weste are being challenged by 12 candidates, including Parks and Recreation Commissioner Duane Harte, former Mayor Jan Heidt, political neophyte John Grannis and three-time candidate Marsha McLean.
The low-key campaign was dominated by a debate about how and whether the City Council should allow development, the council's split decision to solicit bids for the city's trash franchise and the cash-strapped budget and declining reserve funds.
Polls in each of the city's 35 precincts will open at 7 a.m. and close at 8 p.m.
Voters experiencing problems at polling places or needing information about election regulations can call the Santa Clarita City Clerk's Office at (661) 255-4391 or log on to the city's Web site, www.santa-clarita.com.
