3 COMMUNITY COUPLES TO BE HONORED.

``Leaders of Character,'' an inaugural recognition dinner and virtual auction affiliated with Boy Scouts of America Noun 1. Boy Scouts of America - a corporation that operates through a national council that charters local councils all over the United States; the purpose is character building and citizenship training , will honor three Santa Clarita Santa Clarita, city (1990 pop. 110,642), Los Angeles co., S Calif., suburb 30 mi (48 km) NW of downtown Los Angeles, on the Santa Clara River; inc. 1987. Situated in the Santa Clara valley and nearby canyons, Santa Clarita includes the former towns of Canyon Country,  community leaders and their spouses at 6 p.m. Saturday at the Hyatt Valencia.

The honorees will be Gary and Myrna Condie, Kevin and Marilyn Malone and Larry and Sue Mankin.

They were chosen because they not only exhibit leadership qualities, but also display outstanding character, an important element of Scouting.

``These couples were selected because through their devotion to family, faith and community they exemplify the traits of the Scout Law Since the publication of Scouting for Boys in 1908, all Scouts and Guides around the world have taken a Scout Promise or oath to live up to ideals of the movement, and subscribed to a Scout Law. ,'' said Peggy Murphy, Bill Hart District executive with the Boy Scouts of America.

U.S. Rep. Howard ``Buck'' McKeon, R-Santa Clarita, and Santa Clarita City Councilman Cameron Smyth Cameron Smyth is a Republican who has represented Califoria's 38th Assembly district since December of 2006. He succeeded Keith Richman who was term limited.

Prior to being elected to the state legislature, Assemblyman Smyth served on the Santa Clarita City Council, where he
 will be guest speakers.

 congratulates the leaders of character for their important contributions to our community,'' Mayor Laurene Weste said.

``Many thanks to those who have worked so very hard to make Santa Clarita a wonderful place to live, work and play.''

The event is black-tie-optional and will include a virtual auction.

``The virtual auction is designed to showcase the technical skills of the new Scouting generation and to keep the focus on Scouting,'' said Mark Murphy Mark Murphy is the name of two American Football safeties, an ice hockey player, a singer, a Landscape Architect and a philosopher.

, president of GreenBear, the company doing the auction.

Among the items that will be auctioned during the course of the evening are:

A seven-day, six-night vacation at The Sanctuary Resort in Costa Rica.

A half-day ocean or harbor luncheon cruise for up to eight people on the 50-foot yacht Sea Ray.

A makeover with Hollywood makeup artist Joseph Saenz.

Kings hockey tickets.

Autographed memorabilia from sports stars, including an Eddie Murray-signed baseball jersey.

Proceeds will benefit the Scouting organization in the Santa Clarita Valley The Santa Clarita Valley is the valley of the Santa Clara River in Southern California. It stretches through Los Angeles County and Ventura County. Its main population center is the city of Santa Clarita. The valley was part of the 48,612-acre (19,672. .

Tickets to the event are $150 per person or $250 per couple.

Table sponsor prices range from $1,250 to $2,000 for a table of 10.
