SANTA CLARITA Santa Clarita, city (1990 pop. 110,642), Los Angeles co., S Calif., suburb 30 mi (48 km) NW of downtown Los Angeles, on the Santa Clara River; inc. 1987. Situated in the Santa Clara valley and nearby canyons, Santa Clarita includes the former towns of Canyon Country,  -- Sheriff's Capt. Santa Clarita City Manager Ken Pulskamp is working on a plan to choose Minutello's replacement, a process that could include public input. The city pays about $15 million a year to contract with the department for law enforcement and the local station commander essentially serves as police chief.

Lt. Mike Dunkle is filling in during the interim. The city expects to announce Minutello's replacement within the next month.

Minutello, in charge of the Santa Clarita Valley The Santa Clarita Valley is the valley of the Santa Clara River in Southern California. It stretches through Los Angeles County and Ventura County. Its main population center is the city of Santa Clarita. The valley was part of the 48,612-acre (19,672.  station for nearly four years, will be reassigned to another post when she returns to work.

Chief Neal Tyler said it is not unusual for captains to be reassigned after serving two to five years on the job.
