From the moment in the summer of 1996 when Patricia Fry of Pasadena and cabdriver/good friend Steve Baird of Burbank pointed their cab north and took a spur of the moment

    Fry and Baird have largely shrugged off the wonderment, as though a 3,000-mile, $4,000 cab ride - taken with no advance planning - was as natural as a daily commute across 10 miles of the 210 Freeway.

    Both Fry and Baird have small, nonspeaking roles in the film, which was shot primarily in the Long Beach area. Maureen O'Hara and Jason Beghe play the Fry and Baird characters.
