UNIVERSAL CITY - Irene Ceballos is being merged out of a job.

The Glendale resident, who has 30 years of experience in accounts payable and customer service, attended the Daily News Career Fair on Tuesday in hopes of finding job prospects before consolidation in the petroleum industry eliminates her position.

``I'm trying to pass my resume around as much as I can,'' she said. ``They say we should do very well, that unemployment is very low right now.''

Ceballos was one of 3,000 attending Tuesday's career fair, with 28 exhibitors and three seminars, at the Universal Hilton & Towers.

The fairs are held three times each year, said Wendy Bromberg, recruitment sales manager sales manager ngerente m/f de ventas

such as Ceballos are in demand, Bromberg said.

``With unemployment being so low, the job market is very competitive,'' Bromberg said. ``A lot of employers now are basing their structure on the Internet Internet

The unemployment rate is taking its toll on some recruiters but not others.

``In today's low-candidate market, we're just trying to get some good recruits,'' said Mary Nolan For other persons named Mary Nolan, see Mary Nolan (disambiguation).

Despite the tight labor market, 21st Century Insurance has had little trouble attracting good people, said Martha Stanfield, a recruiter at the company's booth Tuesday.

Three times a year since the first career fair, 21st Century has had a booth, and the company has made at least one hire based on a contact made at every one of the fairs, Stanfield said.

``That's really cost-effective,'' she said.
