Amman, Oct. 26 (Petra) -- The 2nd Int'l Nuclear Energy Conference kicked off on Monday with the participation of 42 international experts representing 22 Arab and foreign countries. The three-day meeting, which is organized by Al-Balqa' Applied University (AAU), Jordan Nuclear Energy Commission (JNEC JNEC Japan Natural Energy Company

JNEC Chairman, Khaled Touqan, said the Commission's ultimate goal is to transform Jordan from an energy importer to an exporter by 2030 and move from direct dependence on fossil fuels to alternative sources of energy. Achieving that goal comes through implementing the future vision of the nuclear program, which includes construction of four nuclear reactors for peaceful energy during the next two decades, Touqan said, adding such reactors would cover Jordan's demand of electricity and export to neighboring countries Touqan pointed that the first benefit of Jordan nuclear program would be reflected on its bill of oil imports. The second benefit would be derived through using electricity, generated by the nuclear reactor, to desalinate de·sal·i·nate
