2nd Century Names Three More Executives to Its Management Team to Further Support Its Growth and Future Plans.

2nd Century Communications, a next-generation service provider and the nation's first "e.LEC," today announced the appointment of three senior management executives: Charles H. N. Kallenbach as General Counsel; James E. Thomas, III as Vice President of Human Resources; and Eric W. Vaughn as Vice President of E-Commerce. All will serve on the management team operating out of the Washington D.C. office, which is headquarters for the northeast region and supplements the primary headquarters in Tampa, Florida.

Charles Kallenbach comes to 2nd Century with 10 years of corporate law experience and will serve as 2nd Century's general counsel advising the company on strategic legal and regulatory issues. He also serves as corporate secretary. Most recently, Kallenbach was vice president of legal and regulatory affairs at e.spire Communications, Inc. There he served as lead legal and regulatory counsel for competitive local exchange and data communications operations in the company's 11 state Western region. He was also responsible for development, negotiation and implementation of carrier interconnection, building access and right-of-way policies and agreements. Additionally, he provided counsel on mergers and acquisitions, strategic partnerships and joint ventures.

James Thomas leads 2nd Century's HR team and will be responsible for the total human resources function including recruiting, training and development, compensation, benefits, and employee relations. Most recently, Thomas worked at SCIENTECH, Inc. where he managed the human resource function for domestic sites and affiliations and subsidiaries in 10 countries. Prior to that, Thomas served as vice president of human resources at Qwest/LCI. Thomas also served as vice president of human resources at the National Headquarters of the American Red Cross and held several management positions at Lockheed-Martin Corporation and Ford Motor Company.

As Vice President of E-Commerce, Eric Vaughn will design the "e-communications" platform that will enable customers and partners to interact with 2nd Century via the Web, phone, IVR, pager, and e-mail. Most recently, Vaughn worked as director of electronic commerce and Web development at Fannie Mae. There he developed an on-line mortgage transaction platform to help streamline the mortgage process for the consumer. Prior to that, Vaughn was director of electronic commerce and Internet services at Bell Atlantic. Vaughn implemented Web strategies and systems for ordering, billing, trouble reporting, call management, security, registration, notification, e-mail, directory services, Web development, and site management. Vaughn began his telecommunications career on AT&T's fast track executive program working in various engineering, operations, marketing and sales roles.
