Yellow Pages Association Applauds Winners of 2006-2007 Event

[TM]) today announced the winners of its 2nd Annual Collegiate col·le·giate

 Creative Competition. The Yellow Pages design competition asked college students pursuing an education in advertising, marketing, graphic design or a related field to create print and Internet Yellow Pages advertising for a Yellow Pages advertiser.

Southwestern Michigan College student Fehren Johnson and faculty advisor Bill Rothwell received first place for their dental advertisement that displayed best practices in Yellow Pages directory advertising.

"YPA is dedicated to introducing the power of Yellow Pages to future advertisers and media decision makers," said Neg Norton, president of YPA. "We've received positive feedback about the competition -- students had fun participating and professors realized the educational value of integrating Yellow Pages advertising into coursework coursework

In a survey conducted after the competition, 80 percent of participating instructors and 71 percent of students said that they had a more positive attitude toward Yellow Pages advertising.

Developed by Joel Davis, associate professor in the School of Communication at San Diego State University San Diego State University (SDSU), founded in 1897 as San Diego Normal School, is the largest and oldest higher education facility in the greater San Diego area (generally the City and County of San Diego), and is part of the California State University system. , the competition stimulated more than 1,000 entries, which represented the work of more than 1,500 students enrolled at 573 colleges and universities. Students were challenged to design a print and online dental Yellow Pages advertisement that demonstrates creativity, makes strategic use of available space and includes necessary information for a consumer to make a purchasing decision.

Second place was awarded to a Kennesaw State University Kennesaw State University, commonly known as Kennesaw State, is a public, coeducational university and is part of the University System of Georgia. It is located in Kennesaw, an unincorporated community in Cobb County, Georgia, United States, approximately 20 miles north of  student, Nicholas Voss, whose faculty advisor is Carole Mauge-Lewis. The third place winner was a team of students from Texas State University -- Jessica Worrell, Antonio Banos and Lyle Jenks, with faculty advisor Jody Gibson. Nearly $10,000 in prizes was awarded to winning students and their faculty sponsors.
