2ND COUNCIL DISTRICT.

In December, Assemblyman Tony Cardenas Tony Cardenas served in the California State Assembly. In the Assembly, he had the powerful position of chair of the Budget Committee. He is now a Los Angeles City Councilman, representing the 6th district, which includes parts of the San Fernando Valley. , D-Mission Hills, bested Wendy Greuel in the primary election for Los Angeles City Council The Los Angeles City Council is the governing body of the City of Los Angeles, California, United States.  in the 2nd District.

Cardenas' margin of victory was 5 percentage points, or more than 1,000 votes. But his total fell short of a majority, setting the stage for the runoff Tuesday.

Political handicappers expect Republican turnout to be heavy because of the competitive GOP gubernatorial primary. And while Cardenas and Greuel are both Democrats, some view Greuel as having an advantage since she has won the backing of some San Fernando Valley San Fernando Valley

While both oppose Valley cityhood, Cardenas is more adamant in his commitment to fight secession. Greuel opposes it based on the current information but said she is keeping an open mind.

Both also want to improve constituent service by opening a district office in the Sunland-Tujunga area.
