The Empire State Venture Group, Inc. today announced that 29 companies have been selected to present at the 3rd Annual SmartStart Venture Forum(R), to be held on October 1 and 2, 2003, at the Desmond Hotel and Conference Center in Albany NY. Provorny, Director of the Science and Technology Law Center at Albany Law School Albany Law School is an ABA accredited law school based in Albany, New York. Founded in 1851 by Robert H. "We have seen tremendous interest from companies across the country. Our pool of candidates came from a broad geographical area this year, and they represent a wide variety of industries and technologies," explained Provorny.

More than 350 individuals including approximately 100 investors attended the 2nd annual SmartStart Venture Forum that was held October 2 and 3, 2002, with 28 companies making 8-minute presentations to the venture community.

"Previous SmartStart Venture Forum presenters have had tremendous success in finding funding," said Bob Buckley, event coordinator. "Over 36% of our presenting companies from the first two events have received funding as a result of their participation and they received more than $26 million," Buckley said.

On Wednesday evening Oct 1st, from 5 - 6:30 p.m., a special invitation-only panel discussion for investors will be held featuring Mark Heesen, President, National Venture Capital Association; Dr. Walter Plosila, Vice President, Technology Partnership Practice, Battelle Memorial Institute The Battelle Memorial Institute is a private not-for-profit applied science and technology development company headquartered in Columbus, Ohio.
