29,000 Brit politicians cost pounds 500m.

BRITAIN Britain (brĭt`ən), alternate term for Great Britain, comprised of England, Scotland, and Wales. Often used synonymously with the United Kingdom, the name Britain is derived from Britannia,  now has an army of 29,000 professional politicians costing the taxpayer pounds 500million a year, it was revealed yesterday.

Most politicians are employed at council level with more than 22,800 paid councillors and political advisers. Thirty years ago, just 3,000 people were paid with taxpayers' money for political work.

It was also revealed the main political parties expect representatives to contribute to party funds.
