Four men died as their car collided with an articulated lorry near Newry, Co Down, before 5pm yesterday. A woman pulled from the wreckage was clinging to life in the city's Daisy Hill hospital Daisy Hill Hospital is a local general hospital located in Newry, which is in County Down not County Armagh, Northern Ireland. It is part of the Newry and Mourne HSS Trust which covers an area of 909 square kilometres and represents 28. last night. It is believed all of the victims were Portuguese. The four men in the Southern-reg Ford Focus were declared dead at the scene - a notorious bend on the Tandragee to Newry Road near the railway bridge at Drumbanagher. The driver of the lorry did not suffer any major injuries but was shaken from the horrific ordeal. The road was closed and diversions were put in place as crash investigators examined the scene. Mayor of Newry Charlie Casey said: "This is a very treacherous road - there are many hairpin hairpin a secondary structure that occurs in single-strand RNA during protein synthesis in which the strand turns back on itself. The structure is the result of base pairing and hydrogen bond formation. bends along it and blind dips. "My sympathies go out to the relatives of those who died. There'll be some very sad homes somewhere." And Independent councillor Jackie Patterson, who lost his daughter in a car accident, said his heart went out to the families of those killed. He added: "It's tragic to get news like that. "It's awful for the families, I know having experienced it with my daughter 21 years ago and my sympathies go out to the families and extended families. My thoughts are with them at this time. I would appeal for people to slow up and be more careful. It is a message out to all the people." The Newry tragedy was the latest of four horror crashes. Another family was plunged into grief yesterday after a 47year-old motorcyclist hurt in a collision with a blue Mercedes van in Co Tyrone on Saturday also died. A 42-year-old woman was seriously injured when she was hit by a lorry on the Victoria Road in Derry at around 10.30pm on Saturday. In another accident a 26-year-old woman was also left battling for life after the silver Land Rover See LANRover. she was travelling in crashed on the Glengesh Road in Tempo, Co Fermanagh, just before 10am yesterday. Two 25-year-old men and another woman were also treated for injuries after the 4x4 careered into a tree before crashing into the ditch on the other side of the road. No other cars were involved.
