 criminals were jailed for a total of more than 30 years yesterday after selling stolen goods to a second-hand shop run by undercover police.

Officers opened the store two years ago to lure and catch thieves - and ended up seizing more than pounds 150,000 worth of stolen property and Class A drugs.

The operation, which resulted in 28 crooks being jailed yesterday, also led to more than 50 arrests in a year for offences including burglary burglary, at common law, the breaking and entering of a dwelling house of another at night with the intent to commit a felony, whether the intent is carried out or not. , drugs and handling stolen goods.

Det Insp Jim Hinchcliffe, who worked on the sting in Torquay, Devon, said the criminals were "shocked and embarrassed" by the evidence after the trial at Exeter crown court.
