Candidates had to file either 500 signatures with a $300 fee or 1,000 signatures to be exempt from the fee. The City Clerk's Office still has to certify the signatures before the candidates qualify for the ballot. In the San Fernando Valley San Fernando Valley Valley, southern California, U.S. Northwest of central Los Angeles, the valley is bounded by the San Gabriel, Santa Susana, and Santa Monica mountains and the Simi Hills. races, incumbent Councilwoman Wendy Greuel Wendy Greuel is President Pro Tempore of the Los Angeles City Council representing the 2nd District. Greuel was elected in 2002 to fill the remainder of the term of Councilman Joel Wachs. She was elected in her own right in 2003 and reelected in 2007. will face no opposition after John Quinn, a film producer, decided not to challenge her in District 2. Councilman Tom LaBonge will face only one opponent, Derek Milosavljevic, after two others dropped out, meaning there will be only a primary and no general election in District 4. In District 6 in the East Valley, Assemblyman Tony Cardenas, D-Mission Hills, will face Jose Roy Garcia and Christopher Cleto Trujillo, after three others declined to file papers. Term limits force Councilwoman Ruth Galanter to give up the position. In District 12 in the Northwest Valley, seven people remain in the running to succeed term-limited Councilman Hal Bernson. Two others did not file papers by the deadline.
