IN FOCUS SYSTEMS ANNOUNCES COMPACT COLOR LCD PROJECTOR FOR
 MOBILE, MULTIMEDIA PRESENTATIONS
TUALATIN, Ore., Aug. 23 /PRNewswire/ -- In Focus Systems(R) (NASDAQ: INFS) today announced the LitePro(R) 550, its next generation LCD projector for portable, plug-and-play presentation of audio, computer graphics and video images.
Optimized for mobility, the LitePro 550 combines the latest advancements in active matrix LCD, video and audio technologies with a unique, compact architecture to create the most portable LCD projector available. To further simplify mobile presentations, the LitePro 550 also accepts European and U.S. video formats and power sources.
"The growth of Windows and other graphical user environments, with the integration of video and audio, are compelling trends that will make static presentations methods such as slides and overheads obsolete," said Allen Alley, vice president of the Products Group at In Focus Systems Inc.
"A multimedia projector such as the LitePro 550 lets computer users share information in real time, with the power of sound and full-motion video," added Alley. "And, In Focus Systems' design advances make such presentations easy to take on the road, matching the trend toward smaller form factors in high-performance mobile computing."
 Integrated System for Mobile Presenters
The LitePro 550 integrates a full-color active matrix display, projection optics, light source and audio system. It is compatible with most PC and Macintosh computers and applications. Measuring only 11.5 by 8 by 20 inches and weighing 21.5 pounds, the LitePro 550 is 27 percent smaller and 33 percent lighter than other full-sized LCD projectors, while providing more advanced features.
A state-of-the-art thin film transistor (TFT) screen projects full- motion video and can display more than 1.4 million colors simultaneously from a palette of 16.7 million colors, to provide the best color match to the computer or video source. Screen resolution is 640 x 480 pixels, compatible with PC VGA and standard Macintosh resolution. Contrast ratio is 100:1, with 25-millisecond response time to support full-motion video. Projected images are from 48 inches to 200 inches in size.
 Easy to Use
A hand-held "Smart Remote" control device makes it easy to control the system without interrupting a presentation. An auto-detect feature in the Smart Remote sends the appropriate, context-sensitive command to the LitePro 550 with the single touch of a button. The remote also includes a customizable button, which the user can configure for the most frequently used command functions.
The remote control allows seamless switching between video and computer sources. Also included are audio mute and video standby modes, freeze frame capability, rear projection and an on-screen menu system.
A quartz halogen 400-watt light source is provided for superb color quality and accuracy. The light source's color spectrum is matched to the spectrum of the color filters used in the liquid crystal display of the LitePro 550. Unlike expensive metal halide lamps common in other projection systems, the bulb is lightweight, inexpensive and provides a consistent brightness over the life of the bulb. A built-in lamp changer is provided so that bulbs can easily be replaced by the user.
The LitePro 550 includes two stereo speakers and microphone input to provide a complete, self-contained system for audio-enhanced presentations.
 Video Technology Leadership
The LitePro 550 integrates full Digital Video Processing (DVP) technology, pioneered by In Focus Systems, which directly translates video from the computer to the projector, without the analog component commonly used in other video projection systems. DVP assures clean, true video signals and does not compromise the quality of data projection to accommodate video. Text and data are displayed with no jagged edges.
DVP also includes Video EQ, an image enhancement technology that allows the presenter to tune saturation and intensity of colors to more closely match both video and computer graphics sources.
The LitePro 550 supports domestic and international video signals, including NTSC and full PAL/SECAM, with no loss of image area. In addition, a Universal Power Supply allows the projection systems to be used with power sources available worldwide.
 Right Sizing Portable Projectors
The LitePro 550 is the first LCD projector to utilize In Focus Systems' innovative architecture to enhance portability and design flexibility.
The new compact architecture, which was introduced with the PanelBook 550 in January 1993, is light, easy to carry and accepts new technologies and upgrade options. For example, LitePro 550 can be configured with built-in LiteShow II(TM) In Focus Systems' portable electronic slide system for creating, editing and showing computer- generated presentations without the host computer.
 Pricing and Availability
The LitePro 550 is scheduled to ship in August 1993 and will be available through authorized In Focus Systems resellers and distributors worldwide. Suggested price is $8,999 (U.S. List).
