In order to view a site, you type its address (URL) into the browser's Location field; for example, www.computerlanguage.com, and the home page of that site is downloaded to you. . The browser has delivered high performance in the areas of point-and-click ease, speed, and navigation. The front page of the Web Browser highlights hot home pages to visit. Since the Prodigy Web Browser is the largest web provider on the Internet, this exposure has made for some overnight home page successes on the Net. Using the Web Browser, Prodigy members are pulling down tax forms, downloading shareware Software on the "honor system." The concept is that users try a product, and if they like it, they voluntarily pay a set registration fee or make a donation to the program's creator. There are tens of thousands of shareware programs; some fantastic, some awful. from a selection of 60,000 software titles, and taking interactive tours of college campuses. This home page is drawing crowds and, like the real post offices, it is expected to be a virtual mob scene on April 14th. The Virtual Shareware Library catalogues some 60,000 free programs available from 15 biggest software archives and their mirrors free over the Internet. The combined size of the files is about 9.5 gigabytes. The library can be accessed through a front desk which runs the Shareware search engine (SHASE). SHASE simplifies the search for files and eases the downloading into a client's computer.
