Just happened to thumb through my wife's copy of the Nov/Dec, 2007 issue of Mississippi Magazine and noticed the article by Forrest Lamar Cooper on the "Christmastime Revival" held in 1924, by the late Rev. Billy Sunday Noun 1. Billy Sunday - United States evangelist (1862-1935)
William Ashley Sunday, Sunday
. I recall with fond memories that old city auditorium. I attended many all-night gospel singings there. What a unique place it was! What intrigued me about the article was how the Lord in such a setting and way could use a common man of God. From all accounts, he just preached the word of God in his own dramatic style, and his point of power came from above. He called sin what it is, and (strangely) God worked life-changing miracles in the lives of literally thousands. If this world needs anything spiritual in our day, it'd be more preachers and evangelists like him.

I didn't know how much I missed Mississippi until I started enjoying Mississippi Magazine. Tonya Thompson from Horn Lake wrote a "down home" article ("My Home, Mississippi," January/ February) about what a lot of people are feeling about Mississippi--the sights, the sounds, and the smell of the South.

In fact, I am going to send this article to upstate New York Upstate New York is the region of New York State north of the core of the New York metropolitan area. It has a population of 7,121,911 out of New York State's total 18,976,457. Were it an independent state, it would be ranked 13th by population. , to my son and his wife, and she can start reading our state's history and get the real roots.

Once you are raised in the South--you "itch" to come home.

Receiving Mississippi Magazine is a breath of fresh air for me. As I read from cover to cover, I "devour de·vour

. Rolling Fork was truly a unique place to grow up. Mississippi is one of the best-kept secrets in America. My Kentuckian mother found this out when she took a teaching job in Rolling Fork back in the 30's. My "Yankee" husband discovered it when he willingly agreed to move back here with me when he retired from the Marine Corps. There are lots of former Rolling Fork residents living in the Jackson area, and we prove that "you can go home again" and still be welcomed with open arms. Again, thanks so much for the wonderful insight into my hometown!
