Lit.: Benét, 1109] See : Time USA International Ballet Competition The USA International Ballet Competition, or USA IBC, is one of the world's top competitions for the dance sport of ballet. Located in Jackson, Mississippi, this competition draws the top dancers from all over the world to compete for their country for a bronze, silver, or gold (USA IBC IBC International Building Code IBC Iraq Body Count IBC Institutional Biosafety Committee IBC Inflammatory Breast Cancer IBC International Business Company IBC Independence Blue Cross IBC Insurance Bureau of Canada IBC International Broadcasting Convention ) comes to Jackson, offering scholarships, medals, and cash awards to promising young dancers from all corners of the world. The competition won't be here again until the summer of 2006, but the USA IBC still has reason to celebrate this year. This summer marks the 25th anniversary of the competition, which was founded in 1979 by Thalia Mara. Mara began the development of a professional ballet school in Mississippi in 1975 and brought the USA IBC to Jackson as a way to further develop the local ballet company Noun 1. ballet company - a company that produces ballets troupe, company - organization of performers and associated personnel (especially theatrical); "the traveling company all stayed at the same hotel" . In honor of the 25th anniversary, the USA IBC will host an Anniversary Reunion Gala on July l0. Each performer received either grand prize, gold, or silver distinction in previous competitions. In many of these performers' cases, the competition has served as a launching pad for successful ballet careers. The 25th anniversary performance will give the 13 dancers a chance to give back to the competition that sparked their dancing careers.
