 flavour sees Huyton actor Keith French taking the title role in Dick Whitington at the Tameside Hippodrome Coordinates:

Tameside Hippodrome is a theatre located in Ashton-under-Lyne, Greater Manchester, England. The idea for the theatre came from William Henry Broadhead of Messrs, W Broadhead & Sons.

Keith, 33, a former pupil of Prescot Comprehensive, will be keeping some famous company.

Australian Mark Rafferty, who plays scheming Dr Darcy in Neighbours,has been cast as the villain, King Rat.

``That leaves the way clear for me to play the romantic lead,''jokes Keith, who has just finished a stint with a Steps tribute band.

``I'vealways enjoyed variety and summer shows, but despite that, there is something special about pantomime.

``It is often the very first experience youngster have of theatre. That is why it is so important to get it right -and have fun.

Keith was a late comer to showbiz,having previously worked in the promotions department at -you'll never guess -the ECHO.

``I'vebeen doing theatre for about 10 years now,and I'm still having a whale of a time,''he says.

Dick Whittington Not to be confused with Sweet Dick Whittington.

Dick Whittington (also Dick Wittington) is a character in a British pantomime, very loosely based on Richard Whittington, who was probably born in Gloucestershire but whose family came from Kinver in Staffordshire,
 is at the Tameside Hippodrome from December 10 toJanuary 4.
