21st Century Oncology's Dr. Larry Silverman: state-of-the-art radiation oncologist.

At 21st Century Oncology, Dr. Larry Silverman and his colleagues believe in the utilization of state-of-the-art cancer care for the Sarasota and Manatee communities. "I could not imagine practicing in a group that did not offer patients the most up-to-date treatment techniques," says Dr. Silverman.

In his practice, Dr. Silverman uses Intensity Modulated Radiation Therapy, IMRT IMRT Intensity-modulated radiation therapy Radiation oncology A format for delivering high-dose RT to regions–eg, nasopharynx, that are surrounded by radiation-sensitive areas; in IMRT, a broad radiation field is divided into hundreds of small pencil beams, , which greatly improvess his ability to offer his patients the best chances of cure and least chance of side effects Side effects

"Cancer is a very emotional and stressful illness and I know that we make a difference in the quality of our patients lives," he says. As a physician double boarded in radiation oncology, hospice and palliative medicine, this is particularly meaningful for Dr. Silverman.
