210 jobs at 'anything for pounds 1' shops; ECONOMY.


MORE than 200 jobs are to be created with the arrival of a discount retailer which sells everything for pounds 1. Poundland announced yesterday it is opening six stores by Christmas, creating a total of 210 jobs.

The first store will open in the CastleCourt mall on Belfast's Royal Avenue on October 8. Poundland is Europe's biggest single price discount retailer, with 227 stores across England, Scotland and Wales Wales, Welsh Cymru, western peninsula and political division (principality) of Great Britain (1991 pop. 2,798,200), 8,016 sq mi (20,761 sq km), west of England; politically united with England since 1536. The capital is Cardiff. .

Chief executive Jim McCarthy said: "We are very excited about taking Poundland to Northern Ireland Northern Ireland: see Ireland, Northern.
