21-gun salute to military recreation. .


I was pleased to read the article in the May 2003 issue on military recreation ("Operation Recreation"). The author, Douglas Ide, did a good job of describing the work that recreation professionals are doing for U.S. soldiers abroad.

It was written for no payment as a favour to the journal, and later appeared in the collection Buy Jupiter.  forget the work that Recreation Fleet Specialists are doing for our Naval and Marine personnel overseas. Many of these recreation specialists were aboard various ships at the beginning of the Iraqi war, and some have recently returned to their home bases, while others will, one hopes, be returning soon.  personnel for all of our military personnel shouldn't be overlooked, and we need to acquaint our recreation professionals and our local citizenry with these unsung heroes, and recognize their devotion, dedication, professionalism and desire to go where our military is, whether on land or sea. We should all be proud of the work Morale, Welfare and Recreation Morale, Welfare and Recreation is a network of support and leisure services designed for use by soldiers (active, Reserve, and Guard), their families, civilian employees, military retirees and other eligible participants.  is doing for our military personnel overseas and at home.
