20th Century announces appointment of president.

:TW), the Woodland Hills-based insurance holding company, Wednesday announced the promotion of William L. Mellick to president and chief operating officer Chief Operating Officer (COO)

Mellick was most recently executive vice president and chief operating officer.

In his announcement, Neil H. Ashley, chief executive officer, noted Mellick's 15-year service with the company and praised his contribution in advancing the operations and service as the company grew from $100 million to $1 billion in premium revenue.

"Bill is a hands-on executive who has played an important role in defining the character of 20th Century. His new position will assure the company remains focused on what it does best as it moves ahead," said Ashley.

Mellick, 53, resides in Westlake, Calif., along with his wife and two children. He is a graduate of Ohio State University Ohio State University, main campus at Columbus; land-grant and state supported; coeducational; chartered 1870, opened 1873 as Ohio Agricultural and Mechanical College, renamed 1878. There are also campuses at Lima, Mansfield, Marion, and Newark.  and has been active in a variety of industry associations.
