De Nault, chairman of the board of directors of 20th Century Industries, Wednesday announced the retirement of Neil H. Ashley, chief executive officer, on March 1, 1995, and the appointment of William L. Mellick to the post. Mellick was appointed president in 1994 after serving as executive vice president and chief operating officer.
