2008 Intel Science Talent Search Winners Announced.

They produced the Intel 4004, Intel 8080, Intel 8086, Intel 80186, Intel 80286, Intel 80386, Intel 486 and Pentium microprocessor families as well as many other integrated circuits and personal computer networking  today announced the winners of the Intel Science Talent Search The Intel Science Talent Search (Intel STS) is a prestigious research-based science competition in the United States primarily for high school students. The Intel STS is administered by the Science Service, which began the competition in 1942 with Westinghouse; for many years, the . Shivani Sud, 17, of Durham, N.C., won the top award, a $100,000 scholarship from the Intel Foundation. For her research project, Sud developed a model that analyzed the specific "molecular signatures" of tumors from patients with stage II colon cancer colon cancer, cancer of any part of the colon (often called the large intestine). Colon cancer is the second most common cancer diagnosed in the United States. . She then used this information to identify those at higher risk for tumor recurrence and propose potentially effective drugs for treatment.

The remaining 30 finalists received $5,000 scholarships and a new laptop featuring the Intel([R]) Core(TM)2 Duo processor See Core Duo and Intel Core. .

This year's Intel Science Talent Search finalists hailed from 19 states and represented 35 high schools throughout the United States United States, officially United States of America, republic (2005 est. pop. 295,734,000), 3,539,227 sq mi (9,166,598 sq km), North America. The United States is the world's third largest country in population and the fourth largest country in area. . Of the more than 1,600 high school seniors who entered the 2008 Intel Science Talent Search, 300 were announced as semifinalists in January. Of those, 40 were chosen as finalists and invited to Washington, D.C., to compete for the top 10 awards.

The company has also reinvigorated the competition by adding awards for the schools and introducing technology to the experience, including providing laptop computers to all 40 finalists.
