WHAT: The National Woman's Heart Day(R) Health Fair will offer
free 15-minute heart screenings to measure women's
cholesterol, blood pressure, blood glucose levels and body
mass index. Potential life-saving results are given on-site
and include an overall risk assessment and guidance on
adopting a heart-healthy lifestyle. The health fair will
feature heart healthy-eating demonstrations and
presentations from local chefs and nutrition experts. There
will also be interactive fitness demonstrations on
exercising to a healthy heart in just five minutes a day.
WHO: National Woman's Heart Day(R) is sponsored by the Sister to
Sister: Everyone Has a Heart Foundation, Inc., a 501(c)(3)
foundation that is dedicated to bringing free heart disease
screenings and "heart-healthy" information to women to
prevent heart disease.
WHY: Heart disease is the leading killer of American women,
claiming more lives than the next six causes of death
combined. However, only 46% of women know this critical fact
and only 13% consider it their own greatest health risk.
Getting screened and learning about your personal heart
disease risk factors and how to reduce them are key steps in
prevention. Up to 82% of heart disease is preventable.
