2007 Denver Marathon Draws International Elite Field and Experiences Significant Race Growth.Race Weekend Attracts Record Numbers Despite Challenging Weather Conditions DENVER -- The 2007 Denver Marathon The Denver Marathon is an annual marathon held in Denver, Colorado. It was first established in 2006, when nearly 1,200 people participated in the main marathon event. Additionally, over 1,700 took part in the half marathon that year. [TM], the largest Marathon event in Colorado, celebrated its second annual Marathon today in the Mile High City, including a marathon, a half-marathon, ING Marathon Relay and the McDonald's Mile Kids Race, with record registration growth in light of challenging weather conditions. The race weekend brought nearly double participants from last year's inaugural event with athletes from 13 countries and 48 states to experience running at 5,280 feet, while also bringing elite field winners with some of the fastest Marathon times seen in Colorado history. The Denver Marathon also hosted its first Celebrity Inspiration Run with 13 celebrities running a two-mile stretch and together with other charity programs, raised over $200,000 for various charities. Marathon Results: With a time of 2:21:34, Jonathan Ndambuki, Kenya, took first place in the men's marathon bracket. Results: Half marathon winners for both male and female included Jose Amado-Garcia, Guatemala, with a time of 1:08:45 and Elva Dryer, Gunnison, Colo., at 1:19:07. ING Marathon Relay: Holding the title as Denver's Fastest Relay team, a team of four men with the team name Planned Pethood Posse, won the relay with a time of 2:31:40. McDonald's Mile Kids Race: The McDonald's Mile Kids Race had an overwhelming 1,500 participants in its one-mile fun-run to promote balanced active lifestyles in the state of Colorado.
