2006 build New York award winners honored at Albany ceremony.

The 2006 winners of the Build New York Awards, the statewide construction industry awards program recognizing excellence in construction management, were honored at a gala awards presentation at The Church in Buffalo on November 2, 2006.

Sponsored by the General Building Contractors of New York State (GBC), the Build New York Award winners are selected based on outstanding management skills, imagination, perseverance under unusual and challenging circumstances, safety excellence and innovative construction techniques by the contractor/manager and the entire project team.

Dick Schneider, chairman of the Build New York Awards Jury and president of Northeast Construction Services, Inc. (Syracuse), presented the Lake Placid blue granite awards.

In the New Project category, the winners were: Andron Construction Corporation (Goldens Bridge) for the Nolen Greenhouses at The New York Botanical Garden, Bronx, and Turner Construction Company (New York City) for Hearst Tower, New York City. In the Renovation Project category, the winners were: Lehigh (Buffalo) for the restoration and renovation of Asbury Delaware Church, Buffalo, and MLB Construction Services, LLC (Malta) for College Park Hall at Union College, Schenectady.

In the New/Renovation Project category, the winner was: LeChase Construction Services, LLC (Rochester) for the Beck Center and Statler Auditorium, Cornell University Statler School of Hotel Administration, Ithaca.

And in a new category, Innovation in Project Delivery, the winner was: LPCiminelli Inc. (Buffalo) for Buffalo Public Schools, Phase 1, Buffalo.

There was also an Honorable Mention award presented in the New Project category to: BBL Construction Services, LLC (Albany) for the Glens Falls Hospital Northwest Tower, Glens Falls.

"Everyone involved in the conception and execution of a building project, large or small, public or private, takes pride in the skill, integrity and responsibility that go into bringing a project to a successful completion," Jeffrey J. Zogg, executive director of the GBC, said. "This is what the Build New York Award program has come to mean and represent in the construction industry statewide," he added.

The 2006 winners of the GBC Safety Excellence Awards were also announced. They are: BBL Construction Services, LLC, Albany Building Division; Darlind Construction, LaGrangeville Building Division; Charles A. Gaetano Construction Corp., Utica Building Division; E.W. Howell Co., Inc., Woodbury Building Division; LECESSE Construction Company, West Henrietta; LeChase Construction Services LLC, Rochester; Lehigh Construction Group Inc., Orchard Park; Northeast Construction Services, Inc., Syracuse; The Pike Company, Rochester; Sano-Rubin Construction Co., Inc., Albany; Turner Construction Company, New York City and Albany.
