2006 University of Oregon graduate Andrew Shipley named Rhodes Scholar.


Shipley will begin a three-year doctoral program at Oxford University next fall

Andrew Shipley, who was a Rhodes finalist in 2005, is one of 32 Americans to receive a Rhodes Scholarship this year. He is the first University of Oregon graduate in more than a dozen years to be named a Rhodes Scholar and joins 18 others who have received the prestigious award.

Shipley, who received bachelor's degrees in political science and psychology at the UO, plans to begin a three-year doctoral program at Oxford next fall. Shipley is current involved in a research project, funded by a Fulbright fellowship, which studies national identity and ethnic attitudes amongst Maori and European New Zealander youth.
