WHAT
This morning, a record-setting 3,000 cyclists will pedal through
scenic North Texas to raise a record $2 million, supporting multiple
sclerosis (MS) research and services for more than 17,000 Texans with
MS served by the Lone Star Chapter. The 2006 SAM'S CLUB MS 150 Bike
Tour is presented by Presbyterian Hospital of Plano and Subway.
Photo and interview opportunities available with Herschel Walker,
Chapter representatives, Tour participants, MS client and event
sponsors.
WHEN & WHERE
At sunrise, cyclists will saddle up and take off along this year's
new all-Texas route at the Frisco RoughRiders' Dr Pepper/Seven Up
Ballpark. Cyclists will pedal north, cross Ray Roberts Lake and spend
the evening at the exciting new Overnight at Texas Motor Speedway. On
Sunday, May 7, after a ceremonial lap around the Speedway's inside
track, participants will cycle south, ride around Eagle Mountain Lake
and cross the new Finish Line at Sundance Square in downtown Fort
Worth.
WHO & WHY
The 2006 SAM'S CLUB MS 150 Bike Tour is one of three outstanding
fund-raising rides that the National MS Society, Lone Star Chapter
hosts in Texas. The others are the Houston-to-Austin BP MS 150 on
April 22-23 and the Valero MS 150 on Oct. 7-8 from San Antonio to
Corpus Christi. All three are regarded by cycling enthusiasts as the
premier rides in the state, with a well-experienced management team,
well-coordinated routes, and special attention to rider safety and
comfort.
Studies show that early and ongoing treatment with an FDA-approved
therapy can reduce future disease activity and improve quality of
life for many people with multiple sclerosis. Talk to your health
care professional and contact the National MS Society at
www.nationalmssociety.org or 1-800-FIGHT-MS to learn about ways to
help manage MS and about current research that may one day reveal a
cure.
Celebrating more than 50 years in the fight against multiple
sclerosis, the Lone Star Chapter serves more than 17,000 individuals
who are affected by multiple sclerosis in 141 Texas counties. The
chapter is number one in the nation financially, geographically and
in terms of population served. While there is no cure yet,
FDA-approved medications can significantly reduce the number of acute
attacks and delay the onset of permanent disabilities. All funds are
privately raised and 83 cents of every dollar is used to benefit
persons affected by multiple sclerosis. The Lone Star Chapter has
offices in Houston, Dallas, San Antonio, Austin and Corpus Christi.
