2006: ECR GETS SPOT IN RECORD BOOK GIRLS WIN SIXTH STRAIGHT CROWN ECR 1, GRANADA HILLS 0.

Byline: Erik Boal Special to the Daily News

MONTEREY PARK Monterey Park, city (1990 pop. 60,738), Los Angeles co., S Calif., a growing residential suburb of Los Angeles; inc. 1916. It is a wholesale, retail, and financial services center.  - It was only appropriate that Katie Oakes ran interference in the penalty box. It was only fitting that Erin Kelly scored the goal. And it was only a matter of time before El Camino Real El Camino Real (Spanish for The Royal Road or The King's Highway) was the name of a series of pre-automobile highways linking the various New World colonies of Spain:

of Woodland Hills found its way into the City Section record books.

Kelly's right-footed shot off Niki Connolly's corner kick in the 55th minute found its way inside the left post and the Conquistadores' defense limited third-seeded Granada Hills to one shot the rest of the way, lifting El Camino Real to its City-record sixth consecutive title with a 1-0 victory Saturday night at East L.A. ``I was throwing out arms and legs, however many limbs I needed to get it in,'' said Kelly, a junior, who helped ECR ECR Efficient Consumer Response

``We were knocking on the door, we just had to remain calm. We knew as long as we stayed patient, it would come.''

Kelly's goal - her ninth - provided a satisfying ending to a season in which she was involved in a couple of arguments with coach Shanna Sarris, one resulting in her leaving ECR's field during a West Valley League game with Taft of Woodland Hills.

``Both of us have come a long way with that,'' said Sarris, whose team concluded the season with a 22-game unbeaten streak. ``Her passion for the game and her passion for her teammates helped us step up and win this. I couldn't be more proud of her.''

After scoring the winning goal in Wednesday's 1-0 semifinal victory over Chatsworth, Oakes had her share of quality looks at the goal, including a 25-yard shot that sailed over the crossbar in the 19th minute and a header (1) In a disk or tape file, a set of data that resides permanently at the beginning. But it was her presence in the box on a near-post run that allowed Kelly to receive Connolly's corner kick, helping the Conquistadores win their 27th consecutive playoff game Noun 1. playoff game - one game in the series of games constituting a playoff

,'' said the Cal-bound Oakes, who finished her career as part of teams with an 87-9-7 record, including a 35-game unbeaten streak against City opponents.

``To complete a sixth City title, we're part of history. I'm very honored and very proud to be part of this team. I'm so happy and so proud of this legacy that keeps going.''

A legacy that doesn't figure to slow down anytime soon, with ECR starting only two seniors - Connolly and Oakes - and with freshmen Chelsea Forte, Sasha Scott and Jessica Stadheim all seeing significant playing time Saturday.

``We are blessed that we keep getting this talent,'' said Sarris, who stood on the sidelines On the sidelines

``You hate to see the game end like that,'' Sarris said. ''They are two intense players and their emotions got the best of them.''
