Davis, Northwest Division (Washington); Sharon Van Valin, teacher Junior Composition Sponsored by Morty and Iris Manus Parker Ramsay, age 14, a native of Burns, Tennessee, is a three-time State and Southern Division winner, and national finalist, in MTNA Composition Competitions. He studies composition and harp with Carol McClure, music theory with Wes Ramsay and organ with Wilma Jensen. Principal harpist of Nashville's Curb Youth Symphony, Parker has completed ABRSM ABRSM - Associated Board of the Royal Schools of Music Grade 8 examinations with distinction in organ, piano and harp. He directs Nashville's Young and Baroque from the harpsichord harpsichord, stringed musical instrument played from a keyboard. Its strings, two or more to a note, are plucked by quills or jacks. The harpsichord originated in the 14th cent. and by the 16th cent. Venice was the center of its manufacture. At that time its prevailing shape was winglike, similar to that of a grand piano. The square harpsichord, often called spinet, became more common in the late 16th cent.. He has been selected as an MTNA Finalist in both piano performance and composition in the last few years. Josh's composing awards include first place in the NFMC Junior Composer's Competition, a merit award from the National Foundation for the Advancement of the Arts, and "The Perfect Roar," on the Grammy winning album Scream Factory Favorites, His compositions have been broadcast on WQXR Classical Radio in New York City. He began playing the trombone in sixth grade, and is a student of Todd Johnson. Zach was chosen first chair in All-Region band and jazz band this year. He also plays in the Arkansas Symphony Youth Orchestra. Zach is the son of J.D. and Janet Gingerich of Conway. George also has an interest in languages, being fluent in Chinese and English, and learning French and Spanish. A member of the Perlman Music Program since June 2005, Linnaea was recently named winner in the string division of the 2006 Alabama Symphony concerto competition. She has performed as soloist with several symphonies and was featured in the Saint-Saens third violin concerto with the Memphis Youth Symphony. In 2005, Lee won the Penn State Symphonic Wind Ensemble Concerto Competition and the Marjorie Jane Brewster Memorial Scholarship Competition. This award recognizes both scholastic and musical accomplishment. As a freshman at Eastman, Joseph won the Eastman concerto competition and performed Rachmaninoff's Rhapsody on a Theme of Paganini with the Eastman Philharmonia. In August 2005, Jennifer was runner-up in the National Flute Association Orchestral Competition and Master class at the National Flute Convention in San Diego, California. Since their formation in the fall of 2003, ViM has appeared twice at the U.S. Navy Band International Saxophone Symposium and has appeared at two Eastman Honors Chamber Music Society recitals. ViM has also been performing throughout the Rochester, New York, area in the Eastman at Washington Square concert series.
