2005 Pittsburgh-Marquette challenge a huge success!


The Pittsburgh-Marquette Challenge is a grassroots fundraising effort coordinated and carried out each year by physical therapy students. Each year, Challenge donations fund a $40,000 research grant for a project evaluating the effectiveness of a physical therapy intervention.

This year's Challenge was a huge success, raising a record-breaking $106,154.42 with 56 schools participating! Not only does this total exceed the previous record by more than $26,500, 5 new schools joined the Challenge. Fundraising events organized by the students ranged from golf tournaments and road races to bake sales and continuing education continuing education: see adult education.

Any form of learning provided for adults. In the U.S. the University of Wisconsin was the first academic institution to offer such programs (1904).

The winning schools and their student coordinators are:

1st Place--University of Pittsburgh: Jen Doster, Ashley Kaufman, and Aaryn Mariacer

2nd Place--University of Maryland, Baltimore: Jill Harris and Cyndi Reilly 3rd Place--University of Miami: Nicole Eustis

There were a total of 13 Honorable Mentions--another Challenge record!

Arcadia University: Catherine LaRocco

Boston University: Anna Dewey and Cara Senicola

College of Mount St Joseph: Linda Rechtin

Emory University: Amanda McGinnis

Medical College of Georgia In 1828, it was chartered by the state of Georgia as the Medical Academy of Georgia, with plans to offer a single course of lectures leading to a bachelor's degree. It opened the following year on October 1st at the Augusta hospital. : Elizabeth Ann Williams

Midwestern University: Kevin Callahan and Richard Zamar

Northwestern University: Jen Henry

Rosalind Franklin University: Alaina Meagher

Temple University: Carolyn Nugent

University of Buffalo: Jim Alberry

University of Delaware [3] The student body at the University of Delaware is largely an undergraduate population. Delaware students have a great deal of access to work and internship opportunities. : Marty Fontenot

Virginia Commonwealth University Formed by a merger between the Richmond Professional Institute and the Medical College of Virginia in 1968, VCU has a medical school that is home to the nation's oldest organ transplant program. : Michael Hathaway and Meredith Whitehurst

Washington University in St Louis: Tamara Hart, Kendra Hollman, Shawn Weber, and Christina Wisdom

Congratulations also are extended to the Challenge student coordinators, Helena Boynton and Missy Detzner of Marquette University and Jen Doster of the University of Pittsburgh--as well as faculty advisors Lawrence Pan, PT, PhD, and Sheila Schindler-Ivens, PT, PhD, Marquette University, and Anthony Delitto, PT, PhD, FAPTA FAPTA Fellows of the American Physical Therapy Association , University of Pittsburgh--for their successful efforts.

In 2005, the Challenge donations were used to fund a research grant awarded to Michael C Schubert, PT, MS, PhD, of Johns Hopkins University Johns Hopkins University, mainly at Baltimore, Md. Johns Hopkins in 1867 had a group of his associates incorporated as the trustees of a university and a hospital, endowing each with $3.5 million.
