WORKSHOPS

"YOU'RE FIRED!" "The Donald," a.k.a. Scott McBride Smith (center) discusses teaching candidates with his assistants, Steven Hesla and Beth Gigante Klingenstein, in the Professional Studio Saturday rendition of The Apprentice.

Patricia Sheehan Campbell, University of Washington, was the keynote speaker for Pedagogy Saturday IX.

The National Association of Teachers of Singing The National Association of Teachers of Singing (NATS) was founded in 1944 and is now the largest association of teachers of singing in the world. Today NATS boasts more than 6,500 members in the United States, Canada, and over twenty-five other countries around the world, including  presented its Spring Workshop during the conference. Claudia Catania presented a 16-Bar master class.

The Kilgore College Keyboard Orchestra presented their creative arranging and composing techniques as part of the Group Teaching Track. MTNA and the National Piano Foundation co-sponsored the track.

Attendees get hands-on experience in the technology sessions were co-sponsored, in part, by the International Association of Electronic Keyboard Manufacturers.

OPENING SESSION AND CONCERTS

Barry Bittman, M.D., was the keynote speaker at the Opening Session, presenting information about Recreational Music Making.

The Five Star Brass Navy Band Northwest Brass Quintet provided a musical prelude to the Opening Session.

Adriana Zabala, mezzo-soprano mezzo-soprano: see soprano. , presented a recital of musical theater selections following the Opening Session. Zabala's appearance was sponsored, in part, by the National Association of Teachers of Singing.

The MATSG-53 Color Guard presented the colors at the Opening Session.

The American Pianists Association Fellows Thomas Rosenkranz, Michael Sheppard and Adam Birnbaum appeared in concert, along with APA (All Points Addressable) Refers to an array (bitmapped screen, matrix, etc.) in which all bits or cells can be individually manipulated.

Angela Cheng presented a recital Tuesday evening.

SESSIONS

Poster sessions provide an opportunity for conference attendees to learn about music-related research.

International students from Wichita State University Wichita State University (WSU) is an American state-supported university located in the city of Wichita, Kansas. WSU is one of six state universities governed by the Kansas Board of Regents. The current President is Dr. Donald Beggs.  discussed learning and teaching styles in foreign countries.

Robert Weirich and Karen Kushner showed how two independent teachers can help each other find the musical inspiration to return to performance through the joint study of piano duets.

MTNA FOUNDATION FUND GALA

Iris and Morty Manus MANUS. Anciently signified the person taking an oath as a compurgator. The use of this word probably came from the party laying his hand on the New Testament. Manus signifies, among the civilians, power, and is frequently used as synonymous with potestas. Lec. El. Dr. Rom. Sec. 94. , of Alfred Publishing Company, Inc., hosted the cocktail hour at the MTNA FOUNDATION FUND Gala.

Danny Rocks, Alfred Publishing Company, Inc., presented the keynote address at the Gala.

Music was provided by several performers: Sean Hopps, guitar; Jan Ekstedt, violin; and 4Cast, a vocal quartet including Patty Lemon; Christine Hill, NCTM NCTM National Council of Teachers of Mathematics

MASTER CLASSES

Joan Frey Boytim, soprano, provides directions during the voice master class.

A piano master class was given by conference artist Angela Cheng.

Jane Magrath, University of Oklahoma University of Oklahoma, abbreviated OU, is a coeducational public research university located in the U.S. state of Oklahoma. Founded in 1890, it existed in Oklahoma Territory near Indian Territory 17 years before the two became the state of Oklahoma. , makes a point during the intermediate piano master class.

Dalcroze methods are demonstrated during the eurhythmics eurhythmics: see eurythmics.  master class presented by Stephen Moore and Julia Schnebly-Black.

Maxine Ramey offers suggestions during the collaborative performance master class presented by Ramey, Margaret Baldridge and Jody Graves, who comprise the Sapphire Trio.
