Billboard Radio Monitor and Musicrypt Announce Results of Nationwide Music Survey

Almost 84% percent of radio broadcasters in the US prefer to receive music digitally, and broadcast quality is the most important issue when receiving new music. These insightful and impactful key findings come from a nationwide online survey of over 450 US radio broadcasters commissioned by Billboard Radio Monitor and Musicrypt, Inc. (TSX-V:MCT, OTCBB:MCYPF). The 2005 Digital Music Poll reached out to Radio Broadcasters to garner their opinions and input regarding digital music distribution, music downloads, new technology requirements and the impact it has on the music industry.

The comprehensive "2005 Digital Music Poll" undertaken in September has resulted in a milestone report that takes an in-depth look at the state of digital music distribution nationwide following a year of significant restructuring and downsizing (1) Converting mainframe and mini-based systems to client/server LANs.

(2) To reduce equipment and associated costs by switching to a less-expensive system.

(jargon) downsizing
within the music industry. The online poll conducted by Billboard Radio Monitor and Musicrypt reveals that a majority of the radio industry is already using some form of digital music distribution and are continuing to adapt and request more secure, easier and quicker ways to receive music.

The results of the survey also showed that 70% of respondents chose Broadcast Quality when asked to rank "The most important benefit when receiving music to distribute". File Format and Easy Access were ranked equally important coming in second and third, followed by Time Sensitivity and Security. With security being a critical factor to record labels when delivering music, 58% of respondents also chose security as equally important to them when receiving music.

Key findings of the Digital Music Distribution poll revealed that:

- A surprising 79% of responding radio programmers and broadcasters currently receive music digitally.

- Almost 84% would prefer to receive music digitally if digital music distribution services were available to them consistently.

- A full 69% of respondents receive new hit songs from record labels before they are released and almost 25% must wait longer to receive newly released music from record labels on CD.

- 67% of respondents chose broadcast quality as the number one requirement when receiving new releases digitally.

- Of those who participated in the Survey, almost 70% said that they had received digital files from Musicrypt's DMDS DMDS DMS (Defense Message System) Message Dissemination System
DMDS Dimethyl Disulfide
DMDS De Mysteriis Dom Sathanas (Mayhem album)

, and 4% were from other sources.

- Receiving music digitally, if it is more secure, easier to access and manage is preferred by almost 80% of respondents versus receiving CD's.

- Radio programmers and broadcasters face multiple challenges when receiving new music, 50% stated they do not receive enough promotional information from record labels - i.e. - photos, bios, songwriter, publisher, etc - basic metadata information.

- More than half those surveyed stated quick access, receiving promotional materials, access to catalog material and ease of use were all equally important in receiving music digitally.

- 63% of respondents reported an interest to access top chart hits from other English speaking countries, while 25% were interested in accessing top chart hits from Spanish speaking countries.

Record labels need to adapt to advanced technologies in order to keep up with the rapid market growth for digital music distribution. Only 10% of respondents strongly agree that record labels are adapting to a new delivery model for music distribution and 59% somewhat agree, with the other 30% or respondents polled do not feel record labels are keeping up with the market needs and demands for delivering music digitally.

Digital distribution of music is rapidly becoming a fundamental business requirement and need for most radio programmers, broadcasters and record labels when receiving new music from record labels. It is widely acknowledged that digital music distribution reflects the real and on-going needs of business activity and functionality for radio stations today in order to get better quality of sound, prevent security leaks, and to ensure timely releases.
