2004 average hiring wage $9.58 according to AFS Wages and Benefits Survey.


The 2005 AFS A distributed file system for large, widely dispersed Unix and Windows networks from Transarc Corporation, now part of IBM. It is noted for its ease of administration and expandability and stems from Carnegie-Mellon's Andrew File System.

 Wages and Benefits Survey has been tabulated, and its results provide a valuable insight into the labor costs at metalcasting facilities throughout North America North America, third largest continent (1990 est. pop. 365,000,000), c.9,400,000 sq mi (24,346,000 sq km), the northern of the two continents of the Western Hemisphere. . Reports from 168 facilities representing 21,466 employees in the U.S. were used in developing the report, which collected data on wage averages for 28 job classifications.

According to the survey, on a national level, the lowest hiring wage was $6/hr., the highest hiring wage was $15.65/ hr., and the average hiring wage was $9.58. The average hourly earnings are $14.05. Additionally, 27.4% of the respondents provided health care benefits through an HMO HMO health maintenance organization.

 plan. The survey also tabulated responses to questions regarding holidays and vacations, retirement plans, life insurance, sick leave and pay differentials per shift.

AFS uses the annual survey as an information-gathering spring board to keep its members informed on the labor trends in the industry. The survey is broken down into 20 labor market labor market A place where labor is exchanged for wages; an LM is defined by geography, education and technical expertise, occupation, licensure or certification requirements, and job experience  areas as well as by type and size of metalcating facility and union status.
