) announced today that the 2004 Life Time Fitness Triathlon The Life Time Fitness Triathlon is a triathlon race held annually in Minneapolis MN. An Olympic Distance length course winds its way through the city, drafting is not permitted. , taking place Saturday, July 17, 2004, in Minneapolis/St. Paul, will result in the temporary closure of several Twin Cities streets and intersections.

While not impacted by the event's swimming and running legs, the bike race component of the world-class competition will take place on and through many city streets and intersections, which will be closed from 8:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. As a result, motorists must find alternate routes An official alternate route is a bannered highway that provides an alternate alignment for a highway. Originally, the term for these routes was "optional"; but in 1959, the designation became alternate.  in the Minneapolis lakes area during this time.

The course description and affected streets and intersections are described following.

Olympic-Distance Course (40 Kilometers)

--Mount bike at the south end of the transition area and head southwest on Nokomis Parkway going counterclockwise around the lake.

--Take a right onto E. 50th Street and an immediate left on Woodlawn Blvd.

--Turn right on Minnehaha parkway and follow the parkway east on West River Pkwy at Minnehaha Park.

--Continue on West River Pkwy to Franklin Ave. Turn left onto Franklin Ave onramp.

--Turn right onto Franklin Ave. Cross the bridge. Turn right onto East River Pkwy.

--Continue on East River Pkwy.

--Take a left onto the Ford Ave onramp.

--Take a left onto Ford Ave Bridge, cross the bridge on the left side.

--Turn left onto 46th.

--Turn right on West River Pkwy as it turns into Minnehaha Parkway. As you approach Cedar cedar, common name for a number of trees, mostly coniferous evergreens. The true cedars belong to the small genus Cedrus of the family Pinaceae (pine family).  Ave stay on the right hand side of the road and continue across Cedar.

--At Stevens (just past the 35 W Bridge) take a quick right and quick left back onto Minnehaha Parkway.

--Cross West 50th Street to Lake Harriet Lake Harriet, also known as Harriet Lake, is a lake in the southwest part of Minneapolis, just south of Lake Calhoun and north of Minnehaha Creek. The lake is surrounded by parkland as part of the Minneapolis Chain of Lakes. The lake has an area of 335 acres (0.  Parkway and turn right.

--Continue counterclockwise around Lake Harriet and turn right onto Minnehaha Parkway.

--Complete the loop around Lake Harriet and turn right onto Minnehaha Parkway.

--At Cedar Ave turn right.

--At Nokomis Parkway turn left towards the transition area staying on the left side of the road.

Short-Distance Course (15 miles)

--Mount bike at the south end of the transition area and head southwest on Nokomis Parkway going counterclockwise around the lake.

--Take a right onto E. 50th Street and an immediate left on Woodlawn Blvd.

--Turn right on Minnehaha parkway and follow the parkway east on West River Pkwy at Minnehaha Park.

--Continue on West River Pkwy to Franklin Ave. Turn left onto Franklin Ave onramp.

--Turn right onto Franklin Ave. Cross the bridge. Turn right onto East River Pkwy.

--Continue on East River Pkwy.

--Take a left onto the Ford Ave onramp.

--Take a left onto Ford Ave Bridge, cross the bridge on the left side.

--Turn left onto 46th. Use caution on 46th as the road is rough.

--Turn right onto West River Pkwy. Continue on West River Pkwy as it turns into Minnehaha Parkway.

--Begin merging into the left lane as you approach Cedar Ave.

--Turn left onto Cedar Ave.

--At Nokomis Parkway turn left towards the transition area staying on the left side of the road.
