 members have been honored as the 2004 recipients of ACEI s Elizabeth Breathwaite Student Leadership Award: Shannon Lozano, Marlene Morgan, and Karen Lugo. This award recognizes outstanding student members who have shown remarkable achievement in academics, leadership ability, school and community involvement, and service to the Association. In addition to a $300 scholarship to help defray de·fray

Shannon Lozano is an elementary education elementary education

Traditionally, the first stage of formal education, beginning at age 5–7 and ending at age 11–13.
 major working towards a degree in psychology and elementary education at Southern Adventist University Southern Adventist University is a liberal arts university located in Collegedale, Tennessee. It is affiliated with the Seventh-day Adventist Church. The university operates a radio station, WSMC-FM, which plays mainly classical music as well as news from the BBC, National Public . Lozano is active in her Student Branch, serving as President from 2003-04. She has also participated in various community activities, including Cookies 4 Kids, Boxes for Baghdad, Valentine's Day Valentine's Day: see Saint Valentine's Day.

Lovers' holiday celebrated on February 14, the feast day of St. Valentine, one of two 3rd-century Roman martyrs of the same name. St.
 Outreach, Street Ministries, American Heart Association's HeartWalk and Nursing Home vespers vespers (vĕs`pərz) [Lat.,=evening], in the Christian Church, principal evening office. In the Roman rite, vespers have consisted since the 6th cent. of a few prayers, five psalms, a lesson, the Magnificat, and an antiphon.  (ministry).

"I want to help children find and attain their dreams," says Lozano. "Education continues to grow and change for the better and I'd like to help guide it to those new tomorrows."

Karen Lugo is an education/psychology major at Southern Adventist University She has previously served as a presenter at ACEI's Annual Conference. In addition to her involvement in ACEI, Lugo is involved in shut-in ministries, in-school vespers, community service days, and "Younger Generation" ministries. She is also a member of Phi Chi.

"I chose ACEI because I feel they are a strong association that puts children's needs first," she says. "ACEI is constantly providing opportunities for professional growth and I am constantly seeking that."

Marlene Morgan, an early childhood education major at University of Houston Clear Lake, earned her master's degree master's degree

 in May 2004. Morgan served as President of her ACEI Student Branch from 2003-04. She has also been involved in other community activities, including spearheading a "Books for Baghdad" campaign, volunteering for Parents-as-Teachers, serving as Student Government Association Representative for Texas State Teachers Association, and leading an outreach project titled "Reading Parties: Sharing the Joy of Literacy." Morgan's goals for the future are "to teach at the college level in early childhood and also continue support of families who are at risk with language and literacy skills in my community."
