Dramatic growth in the number of California homeowners installing solar power has confirmed unprecedented interest in the clean, alternative power source. Solar homes in the state nearly doubled solar energy solar energy, any form of energy radiated by the sun, including light, radio waves, and X rays, although the term usually refers to the visible light of the sun.  output in 2002, generating close to 16 megawatts in 2001, and another increase is expected this year. Overall, California homes and businesses produce 85 per cent of all solar power in the country.

On Saturday, October 4, the Northern California Solar Energy Association (NorCal Solar) will sponsor its annual tour of solar homes in Monterey County, the greater Bay Area, and Sonoma and Humboldt Counties. To show how this renewable energy Renewable energy utilizes natural resources such as sunlight, wind, tides and geothermal heat, which are naturally replenished. Renewable energy technologies range from solar power, wind power, and hydroelectricity to biomass and biofuels for transportation.  source can heat, cool and light your home, heat water, cook food and even power your car, homeowners throughout Northern California will open their doors to celebrate the national Energy Awareness Month of October.

"Power is certainly on everyone's mind these days, and solar energy is a big part of the solution to not only energy concerns, but environmental concerns as well," said Elaine Hebert, president of NorCal Solar. "Solar is a universally available resource that gives people a sense of independence and control over their utility bills, and contributes to a cleaner environment. Solar electricity can help stabilize the power grid for everyone by producing the most energy at peak consumption times while reducing our dependence on out-of-state power."
