2003 Service Excellence Award winners announced at APEX.


UP Media Group Inc. has announced the winners of the 2003 Service Excellence Awards (SEAs) for Electronics Manufacturing Services Electronic manufacturing services (EMS) is term used for companies that design, test, manufacture, distribute and provide return/repair services for electronic component and assemblies for original equipment manufacturers (OEMs).  (EMS) Providers and Electronics Assembly Equipment and Software Suppliers, Circuits Assembly magazine recognized the companies that received the highest customer service ratings, as judged by their own customers, during a luncheon at APEX 2003 in Anaheim, CA.

Participating EMS companies' customers rated each company on a scale of 1 (poor) to 5 (superior) in five service categories: dependability/timely delivery; manufacturing quality; responsiveness to requests and changes; technology; and value for the price. Overall winners in the EMS category were Plexus Plexus - A modular World-Wide Web server written in Perl by Tony Sanders <sanders@earth.com>. Comes with interfaces to allow many other information services to be served via the Web.

 Corp. (Neenah, WI) in the large-company category (revenues over $500 million); Teradyne Inc. Connection Systems Division (Nashua, NH) in the medium-company category (revenues between $100 and $500 million); and Jolt Technology Inc. (Ft, Lauderdale, FL) in the small-company category (revenues less than $100 million).

Circuits Assembly also gave awards to those companies with the highest scores in each of the five individual service categories. The overall EMS winners were excluded from winning individual categories. In the small-company category, CASE Assembly Solutions (Easton, MA) won for dependability/timely delivery. Able Electronics (Hayward, CA) won for manufacturing quality, technology and value for price, and tied with dca manufacturing corp. (Cumberland, WI) for responsiveness. In the medium-company category, Sparton Electronics (Jackson, MI) had the highest scores in all five service categories and Universal Scientific Industrial Co. Ltd. (Morgan Hill, CA) had the highest scores in all of the service categories in the large-company category.

For the equipment and software suppliers awards, companies were rated on a scale of 1 (poor) to 5 (superior) in five service categories: dependability; ease of use; responsiveness; technology; and value For price. Aegis Industrial Software Corp. A donation of $2,500 was made on the participants' behalf to the SMTA's (Minneapolis, MN) Charles Hutchins Educational Grant. Part of each participant's entry fee was included in the donation.
