2003 Poster Contest winners.We're pleased to announce the winners of the 2003 National Dance Week Poster Contest that is sponsored each year by DANCE MAGAZINE and Capezio Ballet Makers. The long-running annual contest, whose winners are announced during National Dance Week, is open to dance students in three age categories; winners receive cash prizes, certificates, dance merchandise, and publication of their posters in DANCE MAGAZINE or at www.dancemagazine.com. There were approximately 400 submissions received by January 6, nearly double the number of entries in previous years. Written recording of dance movements. The earliest notation, in the late 15th century, consisted of letter-symbols. Several attempts were made in later centuries to describe dance steps, but no unified system combined both rhythm and steps until the 1920s, to map out choreography. The annual contest gives increased involvement and visibility to National Dance Week, an annual spring celebration of dance in all its forms. Celebrations have ranged from free classes and public performances to activities such as art and library exhibitions, parades, workshops, the longest kickline in the world, and the Planetary Dance.
