2003 PREVIEW GIRLS' BASKETBALL: LANCASTER OUT OF THE GATE COACH NOT SATISFIED, SEES 9-1 EAGLES AS `COMPETITIVE'.Byline: Gideon Rubin Staff Writer LANCASTER - It's a nice start, but the Lancaster High girls' basketball team still has a ways to go. At least that's first-year coach John Gallen's assessment of his team, which despite a remarkably strong start considering its recent history, needs to improve in several areas if it's going to emerge as a force in Golden League play. Lancaster has never made the playoffs and has never had a winning record, making its 9-1 start that much more impressive. However, Gallen pointed out that the Eagles haven't yet played teams that are the caliber of Palmdale and Antelope Valley This article is about the Los Angeles County region. Most notably, Gallen said Lancaster needs to be more consistent and make fewer mistakes, in part a function of the team's youth and inexperience Inexperience See also Innocence, Naïveté. The Eagles' quickness and athleticism have helped them overcome some of their mistakes so far, but against the tougher opponents they'll face in league play, Gallen believes his team has to be better. Rosamond transfer Barbara Hooker, a senior forward/guard, who was a first-team All-High Desert League selection last season, has given Lancaster significant varsity-level experience it desperately needs and athleticism. Freshman guard Andrea Bobic has emerged as one of the team's leading scorers. A 3-point shooting specialist, Bobic is averaging 14 points per game and made six 3-pointers in one game. Other newcomers expected to see significant playing time include sophomore guards Martesha Deason and Candace Linn linn n. Scots 1. A waterfall. 2. A steep ravine.
