Minyard has the team focusing more on drills and conditioning than it did last year, said Pohl, who will play No. 1 singles. Pohl worked hard in the offseason to prepare for his first season as a singles player. Last year, he alternated between No. 1 and No. 2 doubles. Justin May and Ari Berlin will fill the remaining two singles positions. Berlin is the only freshman playing varsity but said he expected to crack the starting lineup For the line of action figures, see . A starting lineup in sports refers to the set of players actively participating in the event when the game begins. The players in the starting lineup are commonly referred to as starters, whereas the others are substitutes after practice started in January. ``I felt that each day I got better, and I felt I had the confidence to be a singles player,'' Berlin said. Pohl thinks Saugus has better balance this season. ``I definitely think we'll get more wins this year,'' said Pohl, whose team won just one Foothill League match last year. ``We could very likely get fourth place and maybe third (in league). I don't think we're going to be in last place.'' The future also looks good for Saugus, which has just two seniors and will return its three singles players. ``We had around seven wins last year,'' Pohl said. ``That's much better than we had done in a few years.''
