Evans Data Corp. announced today the award winners from its 2003 Developer Marketing Patterns Annual Survey. The awards were presented to publications and companies that developers selected as top of the class in the survey that studies developers' attitudes about marketing methods and technologies. Dr. Dobb's Journal Dr. Dobb's Journal (DDJ) is a monthly journal published in the United States by CMP Media. It covers topics aimed at computer programmers. DDJ was the first regular periodical focused on microcomputer software, rather than hardware. won two categories this year by being voted most read developer publication and most read C/C C/C Center to Center C/C Combustion Chamber C/C Command/Control C/C Crew Chief C/C cabin cruiser (US DoD) C/C chief complaint (medical) C/C Channel-to-Channel C/C Communication and Collaboration ++ publication, Java Developer's Journal won the category for most read Java-centric publication. Other findings from the annual survey of more than 550 professional developers included: -- Most developers spent between $1,000 and $5,000 for tools in the last year, either personally or as authorized by their companies. -- Print ads, vendor emails and evaluation copies were far and away the most liked marketing methods chosen by developers. Phone calls from sales reps ranked last. -- Of respondents that belonged to a computer user group almost half attend meetings at least once a month or more.
