2003 Civic Star Award.


Introduction

The American Association of School Administrators The American Association of School Administrators (AASA), founded in 1865, is the professional organization for more than 13,000 educational leaders across the United States.  and Sodexho School Services http://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Image:Schools_Collection_May_2007_2.JPGSchool Services are a business unit of the National Library of New Zealand (Te Puna Mātauranga o Aotearoa). They provide curriculum and advisory services to support New Zealand schools.  are pleased to honor the 2003 Civic Star Award winners by presenting their programs in this inaugural supplement to The School Administrator. The Civic Star Award was developed to recognize school districts that have teamed with local communities to develop and implement innovative activities that advance learning.

America's education system is based on the concept that the vitality of a community is intricately linked to the success of its schools in educating children to be productive citizens. For 2003, we celebrate the efforts of twenty-two school-community initiatives that deliver real benefits to both children and adults. A synopsis A summary; a brief statement, less than the whole.

State winners received plaques and were honored during a special reception. The 2003 Civic Star Award national winner, the Indian River School District Indian River School District is a name shared by several school districts in the United States.
  • Indian River School District of Selbyville, Delaware (see List of school districts in Delaware)
 in Selbyville, Del., was recognized during a general session at AASA's National Conference on Education in New Orleans New Orleans (ôr`lēənz –lənz, ôrlēnz`), city (2006 pop. 187,525), coextensive with Orleans parish, SE La., between the Mississippi River and Lake Pontchartrain, 107 mi (172 km) by water from the river mouth; founded . Sodexho School Services will contribute $10,000 in cash and scholarships to the school district.

 who came together in December to evaluate entries from across the country. Applications were submitted from school districts with as few as 200 students to districts with enrollments in excess of 300,000 students. The winning programs cover a myriad of topics from technology to literacy and from summer activities to preschool classes.

Congratulations to this year's winners. We encourage all school administrators to submit their school-community partnership programs for consideration of the 2004 Civic Star Award.
