VALENCIA - There were tears all around when the Valencia High girls' volleyball volleyball, outdoor or indoor ball and net game played on a level court. An upright net, 3 ft (or 1 m) high, the top of which stands 8 ft (2.43 m) from the ground for men, 7 ft 4 1/8 in (2.  team lost to Royal of Simi Valley Simi Valley (sē`mē, sĭm`ē), city (1990 pop. 100,217), Ventura co., SW Calif. in an oil, fruit, and farm region; laid out 1887, inc. 1969.  in the second round of last season's Southern Section Division I-A playoffs, but also some smiles.

The Vikings were sad to see their season come to a close, obviously, but also enthused about what the future held. Now it's time It's Time was a successful political campaign run by the Australian Labor Party (ALP) under Gough Whitlam at the 1972 election in Australia. Campaigning on the perceived need for change after 23 years of conservative (Liberal Party of Australia) government, Labor put forward a  for that potential to be realized, as the Vikings should field one of the region's top teams this season.

Valencia seems just as strong, if not stronger, at every position this season, and in a good position to challenge Saugus for the Foothill League title and make another playoff play·off also play-off

 run.

``We look solid,'' coach Ray Sanchez said. ``We've got two good middle blockers and two good hitters, and two setters that are going to compete for a starting spot.

``We have good depth on the bench, and I can't think of anything where I could say, `Well, if I just had a different player at this position.' ''

That's because Sanchez fields top players at every position, most of all at the net. Diva Kakonde and Tierra Burnley at 5-foot-11, and Carolyn Cornelius and Janelle Watterson at 5-10 give the Vikings an imposing front line.

``We don't have any giant kids, but we're definitely tall all the way across,'' Sanchez said.

The one question Sanchez needs answered is at setter setter: see sporting dog.

for most of last season and was called up to varsity for the playoffs, but Robertson is starting fresh, with no experience.

Sanchez seemed inclined last week to use Jucksch, but regardless, he stressed he would find time for Robertson throughout the season.

``Tayrn is probably a better pure setter than Ashley, but she's young,'' Sanchez said. ``She's phenomenal. We want to get her as much playing time as possible, so she might play a little on the right side, as well.

``She's just a great little player. She's 5-10, and she has a size 11 1/2 shoe already. The doctors said she might end up being about 6-1. She's going to be a great player. She is already, but she's going to be special.''

That's also a word Sanchez used to describe Kakonde, a raw talent last season who has bloomed after a strong season of club play and is fielding several Division I college offers.

She will team with Burnley, sister of Valencia football running back Charles Burnley, and Cornelius, who was injured in·jure

for much of last season and will now make the move from middle blocker to outside hitter.

``We still need to be a better blocking team and a better serving team,'' Sanchez said. ``Those are the two things we worked on a lot since last season.''

If the Vikings can overcome their small shortcomings A shortcoming is a character flaw.

Shortcomings may also be:

``Now everyone is a year older, a year stronger, and we want to go back. We don't want to be a first-round team or a second-round team. We want to be a finals team.''
