He finished with six before hitting one more in the second round to beat Poly of Sun Valley's Eddie Baeza for the title. ``It was a lot of fun,'' said Braun, who is off to Miami on scholarship. ``I was trying to enjoy myself and fortunately I was able to come out with the victory.'' Baeza, who was drafted by the Dodgers this week after setting Poly's single-season school record for home runs with 11, had four homers in the first round and two more in the second Saturday but was edged by Braun's seventh homer, a towering shot to left. --Injured players lead West: Jesse Michel and Dusty Destler of El Camino Real El Camino Real (Spanish for The Royal Road or The King's Highway) was the name of a series of pre-automobile highways linking the various New World colonies of Spain:
Michel had surgery on his right shoulder last July and Destler had a fractured vertebrae Vertebrae Bones in the cervical, thoracic, and lumbar regions of the body that make up the vertebral column. What made it confusing was that Kennedy High is near the imaginary division line between East and West. Still, Geery said he was just happy to be part of the game. ``I used to play with (Geery) back in the day,'' said Cleveland of Reseda's Adam McLeod, who would have been Geery's teammate in the West team. ``We played on the same team in T-ball. He was one of the best out there. We lost touch over the years, but it's good to see him out here again.''
